GAMES & GAMING
1) What was the first video game you ever played?
That’s a tough one, since I played the NES as well as the Apple II. I’ll have to say my first ever game is either Kung Fu on NES or Wavy Navy on the Apple II, or Jungle on the Apple II. Yes, I’m an old gamer haha.
2) What are some of your favorites games, past & present?
Man… I played way too many games. I’ve played more than 25 years of games and it’s hard to name my favorites. Well, in the FF franchise, I’d have to say FF4 and FF6 may be the favorites; that’s right! Not the overrrated FF7 game, although it was good too. There’s also Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, River City Ransom on NES, Street Fighter franchise and was quite competitive in the arcades back in the day, Duke Nukem 3D, Zelda franchise, and…. well, I can name forever, to be honest. What I will say is that I became a big fan of JRPGs during the playstation era. On the PC, I was pretty competitive in Quake2, Duke3D, Diablo, and EverQuest. And well… I spent a lot of time on the PC when online gaming was big on the PC during the 1990s.
3) What is your preferred platform, PC or console?
I really don’t have a preference, nor am I some snobbish fanboy of a preferred platform. Just because PC might have better hardware than consoles, or whether the debatable mouse vs controller is better, I don’t get into those stupid arguments. If you enjoy the game on some platform, just leave it at that.
Anywho, these days I play almost all my games on PC since I have a large Steam collection. And it doesn’t make much sense to play it on console when I can already play it on PC. Nevertheless, I will still play games on console when I see a game that’s exclusive on console or if the game on PC is just filled with broken bugs. But really, I stick with PC because of how cheap you can buy games on Steam, and it doesn’t happen as often on teh console side. But if you were to present me a game on PC or console in front of me, I wouldn’t really cater to one platform or the other. However, if I were to play a RTS or MMO, I prefer playing those games on PC.
4) Do your friends or family or co-workers know you like MMO’s?
Yes they do.
5) What, in your opinion, makes a great video game?
That really depends on the genre of the game. Like, if you made a rpg, the story has to be amazing, and there has to be good exploration layouts and sidequests. But if it’s a FPS or a fighting game, there has to be a good balance between characters (or weapons in a fps) where one character isn’t OP over another, or a certain move isn’t OP either.
But if we’re talking about a single player game, I think difficulty is a problem in this day and age. Dark Souls franchise is an exception, but I think almost all games we see today aren’t very challenging compared to games that I used to grow up during the late 1980s to 1990s. I’m talking about games on the NES or the SNES days. Challenge was part of the game, and now almost every fps game has to have health regen. I remember the days where platforming games were tough, like the first 3 mario games and you only had a limited number of lives to complete the game. Or in FPS or RPGs where you wouldn’t get much hand holding to guide you through the game. Quests that you did, you had to figure it out on your own. Those are the games that makes it fun for me. So a lot of the times, I don’t have fun with many games of today for single player games. But, I’ll still enjoy the games of today despite how much I don’t like hand holding.
FINAL FANTASY XIV
1) What currently is your favorite job/class in the game?
Right now it’s the Summoner, and it’s really my only class. I do have other classes, but I only used those classes just so I could get cross-class abilities. However, I do plan on using other classes in the future.
2) Do you have a favorite race, and if so, why?
Right now I’m enjoying my current one with the female Miqote, just because they’re cute to look at haha Sexy cats! But really, I had a rule with this race that if you’re a miqote you can only be female, because that’s what they did in 1.0. I don’t care, if there is a male version you can pick in ARR; it’s my rule that you can only be female miqote.
3) What single job/class, if any, would you like to see added?
I think redmage would be cool just like in FFXI. Or maybe samurai or beast class, even though beast wasn’t very good. But it was kinda entertaining to use in XI hah. Or maybe for DoL, S-E should allow people to use their own boats if you do fishing. That would be cool, just like in real life, and you could have this fishing tournament.
4) What, outside of the above, would you like to see in Eorzea?
Well, there’s all this fanservice to older game references. Perhaps we could have an Esper class that’ll allow us to transform like Terra in FF6. Or we got this whole Ishgard nation now that HW is out, maybe there should be guests from FFT, or other classes within the FFT universe. It would also be cool if we could have zones that are geared more for festivals like in real life. We have all this content to progress story, or to level your DoW classes, but I think it would be a nice change to see stuff that are non-combat related. Or the ability to allow us to actaully do BBQ on a grill. For the fun of it all, I’d like to see more beaches and festival type areas; places where you can just relax if you don’t want to fight all the time. Only thing I can think of right now that we currently have is Costa del Sol and the beach in the Mist zone.
5) What do you like most about the game?
The story. I didn’t like it for the most part up to level 50, but then it got better at that point once the Ascians played a bigger role. However, I enjoy it for the gameplay too; it’s nice to be able to change any class you want, just by changing your weapon. Although Duty Finder is nice for the convenience, I wish they allowed you to queue with people on your server, too; because sometimes, you meet fun people, and then you don’t get to play with them again.
1) What is your impression of Chaos Theory so far?
So far, people seem pretty friendly, and that’s always a nice thing. People are very welcoming and whatnot. I haven’t had much time with CT enough, since this is my first week, but I enjoy it so far.
2) Whether or not you are a long-time MMORPG’er or a newbie, tell us what your ideal gaming community would provide, and do, for you.
What I look for in a community, esp in a guild, is I hope people are friendly, I hope people are willing to help and not be obnoxious and nasty to you, and I also hope to find people that are social even if people can’t help you out just to pass the time or have fun together. I’m not too hardcore, so what I look for is I want everyone to be able to act like we’re one big family and we can help each other out.
But outside of CT as a whole gaming community, I am surprised to see that people are friendly through Duty Finder; at least with story quests anyways. I know people do get quite nasty when it’s the more hardcore dungeons.
ALL ABOUT ME
1) What, in your life so far, are you most proud of?
I am grateful I have a nice family and that most of my cousins and I are quite close to one another; all of us act like we’re all brothers and sisters. I’m also grateful that my actual family allowed me to play as many games as I do today, but that doesn’t mean I spoil myself to death where I don’t want to do anything else.
2) What goals do you have for your future, either in-game or real life, or both?
In-game would be that I would like to catch up with everybody with the story!!!! hahaha And so I can finally work on other classes for once. Real life goal is that I hope to achieve 5 more pounds of muscle. I already have a lot of muscle, but I still am hoping to get bigger and more fit. I enjoy my fitness lifestyle
3) What is one challenge you’ve had to overcome recently?
I used to not be into fitness, and now I am. Never did I think I would be able to gain 15lbs of muscle. Now, I don’t do this to show off to people and be obnoxious; I’ve always had a dream to get bigger because I’ve always thought of myself of looking too thin. Now I have that shape I’ve always wanted to get. And now I try to workout almost everyday when I can. Even in the cold winters I will still go out for a run; I just have to wear winter clothes to keep myself warm.
4) What is something about you that many people don’t know?
I guess what people don’t realize is how much I love to workout; it only started happening recently. And people probably also don’t realize how physically strong I really am, because I have a really small body frame. People also probably don’t realize how big of an apetite I have because I don’t look like a big guy haha
5) If you could visit any country or place in the world that you have not been to, where would it be, and why?
Spain or Italy maybe. I hear how beautiful it is, and it would be nice to tour around; would also be nice to see the culture behind those countries, and how different it is compared to the USA. It would be interesting how people dance there, and well… always nice to see how the pretty ladies look lol
